Frisian yellow bricks at the Waterpoort

Large-format antique Frisian yellow bricks laid in brick steps beside the Waterpoort in Sneek.

For this special project beside the Waterpoort in Sneek, we supplied a beautiful batch of large-format antique Frisian yellow bricks. The authentic facing bricks were used for a distinctive flight of brick steps that complements the historic appearance of one of Friesland’s best-known monuments. We supplied the bricks, which were expertly laid by Tjalsma.

Frisian yellow bricks are known for their warm yellow colour variations, subtle traces of lime and characteristic appearance. Natural differences in colour and the artisanal firing process give every brick its own character. These properties make old Frisian yellow bricks particularly suitable for restorations and historic locations where new masonry must blend seamlessly with its surroundings.

Traditional workmanship suited to the Waterpoort’s monumental setting was chosen for this project. The timeless brick steps look as though they have always formed part of this historic location, showing how authentic facing bricks can make a substantial difference even in smaller applications.

We are proud that this special batch of antique Frisian yellow bricks allowed us to contribute to a project at such an iconic location. It is a beautiful example of historic building materials and traditional craftsmanship creating a sustainable, authentic result together.

Projects like this always feel a little more special. Supplying bricks for such a well-known public place is fantastic! We thank Tjalsma masonry and pointing company for the collaboration.

Two flights of steps were built for this project using antique large-format Frisian yellow bricks, and they are a fantastic sight!
