Mold bricks

Old (Bezande) mold facade bricks are a slightly younger variant of old bricks, which are often a bit tighter and more dimensionally stable than the well-known old hand-molded bricks; they are often also of harder quality.

What are molded bricks?

Molded bricks are traditional masonry bricks made by pressing clay into a mold and then firing it. Often, a layer of sand was added to the clay, which is why they are also referred to as โ€˜sandy old molded bricks.โ€™ This method results in relatively uniform bricks with a robust texture and a rich variation in color. They have a fairly even surface and are therefore used in visible work. The antique molded bricks from Van Dillen Antique Building Materials have been enhanced by time and the process of demolishing facades and chipping bricks, making them perfect for restoration projects or for antique accents in new construction projects.

What is the difference from other masonry bricks?

Compared to other bricks, molded bricks are first placed in a mold and then fired. Molded bricks are unique due to their uniform size and shape, making them ideal for tight, even masonry, even when we are talking about antique, old bricks. Due to the molding production process, the bricks have a smooth finish with subtle textures, distinguishing them from other bricks such as handmade bricks. Sometimes sawdust, gravel, or sand is added, which changes the structure of the bricks.

The advantages of molded bricks

The durability and timeless beauty of old molded bricks make them an excellent choice for both new construction (with old materials) and renovation projects. They are resistant to various weather conditions and require minimal maintenance, making them practically very attractive. After all, they are over a hundred years old and already contain various color shades. Naturally, the molded bricks are also visually appealing; the lime and cement traces left after chipping the bricks add a touch of white/gray to the natural color variations, enhancing the overall aesthetic. Their uniform design also makes them relatively easy to lay, resulting in a slightly neater appearance. Here are the advantages summarized:

  • Resistant to various weather conditions
  • Attractive and very beautiful appearance
  • Easy to work with due to relatively small size differences
  • Often of harder quality
  • Due to slightly larger size, fewer bricks per square meter, thus faster completion
