This remarkable and unique antique tile tableau entered our collection through an unusual route. It was made as a tribute to the founding of Amstel beer. Amstel was founded in 1871 by the Van Marwijk Kooy family, who are depicted in the painting, and the tableau itself dates from 1904.

We acquired it from the granddaughter of its original owner. Her grandfather was a friend of the Kooy family and received the tableau from them as a gift. It was treasured and treated accordingly. The tableau hung in the same frame for at least 100 years and is reinforced at the back with a wooden framework and cloth, which also reveal the age of the work.

Because it was always handled so carefully, it remains in outstanding condition without a single damaged tile.

Each tile measures 15.3 x 15.3 cm and the complete tableau measures approximately 1.00 x 1.10 m.
