Period internal dividing and sliding doors

What are old ensuite doors and what do they add to a room?

The term en suite comes from French and literally means in a row. In architecture it refers to a series of connected rooms. Ensuite doors are the characteristic sliding doors that connect spaces, usually between the front room and the back room. They often have fixed wooden cupboards on the sides, creating a stylish and practical partition. Want to know more about ensuite doors? We explain what ensuite doors are in more detail.

Old sliding doors with stained glass and bevelled glass

Our collection regularly includes beautiful ensuite doors with stained glass, creating a special play of light in your home. They also add fine detailing to the room. Other authentic options include sliding doors with painted glass or stylish bevelled glass. We select our doors for quality and historic value, so you can be sure of a standout feature in your room.

Why choose second-hand ensuite doors for your project?

Second-hand ensuite doors give a room a character that new doors cannot match. The lived-in quality of reclaimed materials feels authentic and tells a story. It is also a sustainable choice because no new raw materials need to be extracted. The timber quality and detailing are often better than in new doors. Our doors are carefully checked and ready to be installed as the eye-catcher in your project. We also explain how to install ensuite doors.

1920s and 1930s ensuite doors

Our range includes a wide selection of original 1920s and 1930s ensuite doors. These pieces mark an interesting shift in Dutch building history and fit perfectly with popular interior styles today. Early 1920s doors often still had traditional raised panels and rich profiles, while 1930s designs became more restrained. The raised panels gave way to flatter panels and the ornate mouldings were replaced by cleaner, simpler profiles. A 1930s room divider stands out through its simple panel layout and timeless appearance.
