These brown smooth Groningen bricks measure approximately 21.5 x 5.5 cm and are a striking, relatively scarce variety of old Groningen brick. Their dark brown-grey colour and smooth texture give masonry a restrained, robust character that contrasts well with lighter bricks and mortar.

Historically, these dark smooth Groningen bricks were used in the lower courses of masonry and were often fired harder. Today they are suitable for repairing existing work, as well as for new construction, plinths, garden walls and other architectural accents that call for a dark old brick.

Our collection of Groningen bricks includes smooth and handmade varieties in red, orange, brown and mixed tones. Because colour names never convey the full appearance of old bricks, we recommend sending photographs and dimensions when looking for a match.

This batch may also suit those looking for old brown bricks, dark facade bricks or old masonry bricks with a calm surface. Browse the full range of old masonry bricks for other sizes and larger batches. Ask us about current availability and delivery options.
