Reclaimed terracotta floor tiles

The origin of our reclaimed terracotta tiles

Our farmhouse tiles mainly come from old farms in the surrounding area and have already served for generations. Made from clay, these floor tiles carry the warm, earthy colours of genuine terracotta, literally “baked earth”. The lived-in character of our collection appears in charming irregularities and natural wear, so no two tiles are alike.

Terracotta was extremely popular in the past, largely because of its timeless colour and natural appearance. Today it is also used in modern spaces, where it creates a feeling of calm and openness. Subtle colour differences and the handmade appearance give the floor character. These qualities have made terracotta tiles a feature of monasteries, townhouses and farmhouses in the Netherlands and Flanders for centuries.

A terracotta tile floor in your room

A terracotta floor can be used in various spaces. It fits perfectly in:

• Kitchens
• Living rooms
• Garden rooms
• Entrances
• Hallways

The tiles are also practical: they are hard-wearing, easy to clean and stay beautiful for years. Moreover, they also combine well with underfloor heating. Curious what a terracotta floor looks like? We supplied terracotta tiles for a floor in Lienden.

Cleaning old terracotta floor tiles

Maintaining farmhouse floor tiles is generally straightforward. Vacuum them regularly and then mop with a pH-neutral cleaning product. You can also use an impregnating product to make the floor more resistant to stains.

We recover old floor tiles from historic buildings. Because they are given a second life, the tiles may show signs of wear. These signs of use often add to their distinctive character.
